Physician Assistant Malpractice Physician Assistants are healthcare providers who complete a training program designed to follow the medical model of a physician. After completion of that program, they take a certification examination developed by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Upon successful completion of the certification exam, they apply for licensure from the state in which they will practice. They are then able to work in collaboration with a supervising physician diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medications. Their scope of practice is largely determined by their supervising physician and they work in such settings as hospital emergency rooms, primary care offices, urgent care clinics, and specialty clinics.
